Introduction
This program is intended to develop/enhance philosophical attitudes among learners towards fundamental issues in education.
Rationale
- Expand the knowledge scope of the learners as they prepare to write their theses.
- Provide background knowledge in the philosophical issues in view of current debates in Philosophy and in the philosophy of education.
- To provide a better/deeper understanding of key concepts such as gender, feminism and morality in the debates on emerging trends in philosophical thought as they affect education and curricula reforms in Africa, in Kenya in particular.
Course Learning Outcomes
By the end of the course the learners will be able to:
- Acquire/develop critical, analytical, comprehensive/synthetic skills in thinking.
- Sharpen analytical/philosophical skills in issues of education.
- Embrace/develop positive attitudes towards all aspects of education without taking anything for granted.
- Cultivate intellectual and moral virtues such as self-awareness, comprehensiveness, penetration, flexibility and resourcefulness.
- Acquire/enhance certain intellectual, moral and social qualities.
- Inculcate broad and creative understanding of issues in education.
