Dr. Nyerere is a Coordinator, Growing Leaders Programme, and a Lecturer in the Department of Educational Management, Policy and Curriculum Studies, School of Education, Kenyatta University, Kenya. Previously, Dr. Nyerere has worked as an administrator in the Planning and Development Department at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology in Kenya. She holds a PhD in Educational Planning and Economics of Education from Kenyatta University with an interest in higher education. She has professional training in Higher Education Leadership and Management Strategies from Carl Von Ossienzky University of Oldenburg-Germany and a professional training on Cost Analysis in Education from the International Institute for Educational Planning (IIEP)-(UNESCO).
Dr. Nyerere serves in various boards that include: Kenyatta University Center for Capacity Development as a member; the executive board of the Regional Eastern African DIES (Dialogue on Innovative Higher Education Strategies) Alumni Network Kenya Chapter as Secretary; Secretary Kenya DAAD Scholars Association Kenyatta University Chapter; and Member, School of Education Board of Postgraduate Studies, Kenyatta University. Dr. Nyerere has served as a peer reviewer, Inter-University Council for East Africa Education Programmes Quality Assurance in Kenya and Tanzania. She is also a member of professional bodies and networks including: African Network for Internationalization of Education (ANIE); the African Council for Distance Education (ACDE); Regional Eastern Africa DIES Alumni (REAL) Network; Kenya DAAD Scholars Association (KDSA); Education for Sustainable Development in Africa Next Generation Researchers (ESDA-NGR) Network, and Kenyatta University Next Generation Academics and Researchers Network (NGARN).
