Dr Mathenge’s research interests are in Autism, Intellectual disabilities, Landau Kleffner Syndrome
(a rare disability commonly mistaken for Autism and Rett syndrome), Applied Behavior Analysis
and Inclusion. He believes that all students are capable of learning if taught in their preferred learning styles.

 Dr. Mathew Kinyua Karia

 

Dr. Mathew Kinyua Karia is a Lecturer in the Department of Special Needs Education. He
teaches in the area of Speech and Language Pathology. He is also working in various Kenyan
hospitals as a consultant speech therapist as well as a volunteer speech therapist with Operation
Smile Inc., a USA based NGO. Dr. Karia holds a Doctor of Philosophy (Neurolinguistics & Phonetics)
from Cologne University (Germany), M.A (Linguistics) from Kenyatta University (Kenya),
Certificate in Speech Pathology (USA) and B.Ed (Arts) from Kenyatta University. He is a KAAD
Alumni who is an ex-scholar (Phd, 2012-2014; Masters, 2004-2006) He pursued a PhD (Neurolinguistics
and Phonetics)in the University of Cologne-Germany. He wrote a thesis in the field of speech pathology
entitled,‘Analysis of Dysarthric Speech after a Traumatic Brain Injury: A Gestural Approach.’ Book
available on; http://www.verlagdrkovac.de/978-3-8300-8095-4.htm In this book, Dr. Karia
deals with speech processing in the brain. He also discusses new approaches that may be used
in rehabilitation of individuals who suffer brain injuries. Dr. Karia has also published in the area
of speech production especially in the area of cleft lip and palate. He wrote his Master
thesis in this area where he looked at children with cleft lip and palate in Kenya.....View Profile
