Kenyatta University & UNESCO Successfully Holds Peace Education Training

Kenyatta University in collaboration with United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization - International Institute for Capacity Building in Africa (UNESCO-IICBA), Kenya National Commission for UNESCO (KNATCOM) and the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology successfully implemented a ‘Teacher Training and Development for Peace Building in the Horn of Africa and the Surrounding Countries’ project. This project is being implemented in six African countries, namely Kenya, South Sudan, Uganda, Ethiopia, Eritrea and Somali. The aim of the project is to contribute to the provision of economically productive and peace loving young people through quality teacher training and development.

As part of the implementation of this project, a Training of Trainers (TOT) course was held from 26th – 29th June, 2018 at Kenyatta University Business and Students Service Centre (BSSC). The training was officially opened by Dean, School of Education, Prof. Kisilu Kombo. Participants were drawn from Kenyatta University School of Education, Mount Kenya University and Secondary School teachers who were trained as ToTs to implement the project in institutions of learning in the country. The training was cascaded to Education students from the two universities due for Teaching Practice, who were trained as implementers of the Project from 26th - 29th July, 2018. The training was sponsored by UNESCO-IICBA and is being coordinated and supervised by the Dean, School of Education.
