The School of Education on Thursday 6thMarch, 2013 received a delegation from the University of Somalia led by Eng. Omar Hussein who is the Acting Deputy Vice - Chancellor Academic Affairs at the University. Among those present at the meeting were; Dean, School of Education and Associate Dean, School of Education. The following Chairpersons of Departments were also present; Special Needs Education, Library and Information Sciences, Ed. Foundations, Ed. Management Policy and Curriculum Studies and Ed. Communication and Technology.
The purpose of the visit was to forge collaboration between the Kenyatta University and University of Somalia in areas of:
- Restructuring the College of Education at the University of Somalia
- Capacity building staff at the Ministry of Education in Somalia
- Capacity Development for staff at the University of Somalia
- Collaborative Research
- Development of Programmes
Eng. Omar Hussein noted that Kenyatta University is a fast growing university and that University of Somalia would like to grow with Kenyatta University. He observed that Kenyatta University would help strengthen the Education sector in Somalia that was weakened by the war in the country. The Dean, School of Education welcomed the team from the University of Somalia and expressed enthusiasm for collaborations with the University noting that it had potential to significantly contribute in strengthening the Education Sector in Somalia.
